Europe itself rejected cheap Russian gas - Macron

Europe itself turned away from the cheap Russian gas that underpinned its industrial competitiveness. Macron acknowledged this.

According to the French president, the European Union relied heavily on affordable fuel from Russia. It was particularly vital for Central Europe, the manufacturing heartland that drove the rest of the European economy.

"We cut off those supplies. There is no longer the affordable fuel that powered Central Europe," Macron stated at an economic forum in Madrid.

The French leader also spoke of a new phase of the energy crisis in Europe. According to him, it has once again demonstrated the dependence of European countries on fossil fuels
