Russia did not agree to a broader ceasefire with Ukraine - Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Saturday that Kyiv had issued a call for a broad truce, but that Russia had not discussed it with Ukraine.

"Ukrainian authorities called for a ceasefire lasting longer than three days, but we never agreed on anything with them," the Russian leader emphasized during a meeting with Trump's special envoy, Steven Witkoff, and the U.S. president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Putin added that the request to halt attacks came from Ukraine through official channels—specifically, via both intelligence services and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "I issued the corresponding order, and since midnight today, no attacks have been carried out against Kyiv," the Russian leader noted.

At the same time, he clarified that the Ukrainian side had "significantly reduced—by an order of magnitude—" the attacks launched against Russian territory, including Moscow. The leader emphasized that Russia would do everything possible to ensure the safety of the negotiation process, the mediators, and those accompanying them.

For his part, Trump's envoy, Steven Witkoff, thanked Putin for the three-day ceasefire intended to ensure the safe arrival of the U.S. negotiators.

«Россия не договаривалась с Украиной о более широком перемирии на три дня, о котором заявили в Киеве. Москва сделает все от нее зависящее, чтобы обеспечить безопасность переговорного процесса и спецпосланников Трампа», — добавил президент России.
