Iranian Defense Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik stated on Saturday that his armed forces' underground facilities have been a key factor in the failure of the current U.S. aggression against the country, and a distinguishing element compared to how Tehran handled U.S. offensives in the past.
"The enemy's objectives in the three previous wars were the overthrow of the Islamic Republic; the fragmentation of Iran; the weakening of its peaceful nuclear capabilities, missile power, regional influence, and naval capabilities; as well as the containment of the Islamic Revolution," the military spokesman stated in a release carried by local media.
"The enemy failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives. Although the war entailed costs and damage for the country, the enemy was unable to reach its primary goals; on the contrary, Iran inflicted losses upon it," he added.
Regarding the key factor that, according to Tehran, explains the failure of the current U.S. aggression, Talaei-Nik specified: "In recent years, some of the Armed Forces' strategic capabilities have been relocated to secure environments and underground facilities. Consequently, some of the enemy's calculations regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran's defensive and arms-production capabilities have proven incorrect."
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump intended to press ahead with strikes against the Persian nation following the November midterm elections and had rejected a potential ceasefire between the two countries.
