U.S. President Donald Trump stated today that his country's strategic crude oil reserves—currently at their lowest level in decades—will be filled with oil from Venezuela.
"We have a great relationship with Venezuela. We are making a lot of money. And so are they. We are going to start filling our national reserves with Venezuelan oil to make money," the president told reporters.
In late August, Trump announced "the biggest oil deal in world history" with the Bolivarian nation. The news was confirmed by Venezuelan official Delcy Rodríguez, who later clarified that the agreement would span 25 years and emphasized that Caracas would retain sovereignty over its hydrocarbon resources.
