Ανακοίνωση του στρατού ανέφερε ότι αιτία της έκρηξης ήταν ένα αυτοκίνητο-βόμβα.
Η έκρηξη προκάλεσε μεγάλη πυρκαγιά που κατέστρεψε περίπου 100 αυτοκίνητα και παγίδευσε πολίτες σε κτίρια που υπέστησαν ζημιές.
Η Επιτροπή του Ερυθρού Σταυρού και της Ερυθράς Ημισελήνου του Λιβάνου είχε κάνει λόγο νωρίτερα για τουλάχιστον 17 νεκρούς και εκατοντάδες τραυματίες.
«Ορισμένοι από τους τραυματίες βρίσκονται σε σοβαρή κατάσταση, κι έτσι περιμένουμε ότι ο απολογισμός [των νεκρών] θα αυξηθεί», είπε ο Ζορζ Κατάνεχ, επικεφαλής του λιβανέζικου Ερυθρού Σταυρού. Οικογένειες έχουν παγιδευτεί μέσα στα σπίτια τους και η πολιτική προστασία πασχίζει να τους απεγκλωβίσει, πρόσθεσε ο ίδιος.
Το εθνικό πρακτορείο ειδήσεων του Λιβάνου είχε μεταδώσει πιο πριν ότι ο αριθμός των νεκρών ανέρχεται 14 και οι τραυματίες είναι 212.
Ο Λιβανέζος υπουργός Εσωτερικών Μαρουάν Σαρμπέλ σε δηλώσεις του έκανε επίσης λόγο για επίθεση με παγιδευμένο αυτοκίνητο.
Πηγές της Χεζμπολάχ ωστόσο ανέφεραν ότι μπορεί να επρόκειτο για επίθεση καμικάζι, με βάση το γεγονός ότι βρήκαν ανθρώπινα υπολείμματα κοντά στο όχημα που ήταν παγιδευμένο.
Νοσοκομεία στη Βηρυτό απηύθυναν κατεπείγουσα έκκληση για αιμοδοσία.
Μια προηγουμένως άγνωστη σουνιτική ισλαμιστική οργάνωση, που αυτοαποκαλείται Η Ταξιαρχία της Αΐσα, της Μητέρας των Πιστών, για Αποστολές στο Εξωτερικό, ανέλαβε την ευθύνη για την έκρηξη, υποστηρίζοντας ότι αυτή είναι το δεύτερο «μήνυμα» το οποίο στέλνει στον ηγέτη της Χεζμπολάχ Χάσαν Νασράλα και την οργάνωση.
Αΐσα ονομαζόταν μια από τις συζύγους του προφήτη Μωάμεθ.
«Σου στέλνουμε, Νασράλα, γουρούνι, το δεύτερό μας μήνυμα. . . κι ακόμα δεν καταλαβαίνεις. Σου το είπαμε την πρώτη φορά ότι δεν είσαι εσύ που καθορίζεις το πότε και το πού. Είναι η δεύτερη φορά που εμείς ορίζουμε τον τόπο και την μάχη και θα είναι πάντοτε μέσα στο οχυρό σου», δηλώνει ένας μασκοφόρος ένοπλος σε ένα βίντεο το οποίο αναρτήθηκε στο YouTube, πλαισιωμένος από δύο ακόμη μασκοφόρους άνδρες με πολυβόλα στα χέρια.
Ο άνδρας, απευθυνόμενος σε δεύτερο πρόσωπο στο Νασράλα, απειλεί με νέες τέτοιες επιθέσεις –«θα δεις κι άλλες, αν θέλει ο Αλλάχ»– ενώ καλεί τους Λιβανέζους να «αποφεύγουν» τα προπύργια της Χεζμπολάχ. Αναφέρεται μειωτικά στον Νασράλα επανειλημμένα, αποκαλώντας τον πράκτορα του Ιράν και του Ισραήλ.
Η αυθεντικότητα του βίντεο δεν ήταν δυνατό να επαληθευτεί.
Η συνοικία Ρέουις, όπου σημειώθηκε η έκρηξη, θεωρείται προπύργιο της Χεζμπολάχ. Το σιιτικό κίνημα πραγματοποιεί συχνά πορείες κι εκδηλώσεις εκεί.
Την 9η Ιουλίου, ένα παγιδευμένο με εκρηκτικά αυτοκίνητο είχε πυροδοτηθεί σε ένα χώρο στάθμευσης στη συνοικία Μπιρ αλ Άμπεντ, με αποτέλεσμα 53 άνθρωποι να τραυματιστούν και να προκληθούν εκτεταμένες υλικές ζημιές.
Ισλαμιστές αντάρτες στη Συρία έχουν απειλήσει την Χεζμπολάχ με σκληρά αντίποινα για την απόφασή της να ταχθεί με το καθεστώς και να πολεμήσει στο πλευρό των συριακών τακτικών δυνάμεων στον συνεχιζόμενο εμφύλιο.
Η έκρηξη σημειώθηκε εξάλλου μία ημέρα έπειτα από μια ομιλία του ηγέτη της Χεζμπολάχ, σεΐχη Χάσαν Νασράλα, με την οποία το κίνημα ανέλαβε την ευθύνη για μια ενέδρα εναντίον μιας περιπόλου των ένοπλων δυνάμεων του Ισραήλ στο νότιο Λίβανο. Hezbollah chief says he is ready to personally go fight in Syria...
ReplyDeleteHezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said Aug. 16 he is ready to fight in Syria, a day after a deadly car bomb in a Beirut stronghold of his pro-Damascus Shiite group.
Nasrallah also accused radical Islamists of responsibility for the bombing that killed at least 22 people, after a previously unknown group, apparently a Syrian rebel cell, said it carried out Thursday's attack.
"I will go myself to Syria if it is so necessary in the battle against the takfiris (radical Sunni Muslims), Hezbollah and I will go to Syria" to fight rebels trying to oust the Damascus regime, he said.
In a speech broadcast on television as Lebanon held a day of mourning for the victims of the car bomb, Nasrallah said "all indications concerning yesterday's attack lead to the takfiri groups".
Police said at least 22 people were killed in the bombing that targeted the densely populated southern suburbs of Beirut, between the Hezbollah bastions of Bir el-Abed and Rweiss. Attentat à Beyrouth: le bilan s'alourdit à 27 morts...
ReplyDeleteLe bilan de l'attentat qui a frappé jeudi dans la banlieue sud de Beyrouth un bastion du Hezbollah chiite s'est alourdi à 27 morts, a annoncé le ministère de la Santé samedi.Il s'agit de l'attaque la plus meurtrière au Liban depuis celle qui a coûté la vie au Premier ministre Rafiq Hariri et à 22 autres personnes en février 2005. "Au moins 27 personnes sont mortes et 336 ont été blessées dans l'attentat à la voiture piégée qui a touché le quartier de Roueiss jeudi", a annoncé le bureau du ministre de la Santé, Ali Hassan Khalil.
Un précédent bilan établi vendredi faisait état de 22 personnes tuées dans l'explosion qui a dévasté ce quartier très peuplé de Beyrouth. Le ministère de la Santé à précisé que trois personnes étaient mortes des suites de leurs blessures, et que deux corps avaient été retrouvés depuis le précédent bilan. L'attentat a été revendiqué par un groupuscule totalement inconnu portant un nom à connotation sunnite dans une vidéo qui n'a pas pu être authentifiée, et dans laquelle il explique avoir mené l'attaque en réponse à l'implication du Hezbollah dans le conflit syrien.
Le Hezbollah soutient le régime de Bachar al-Assad en Syrie, et des centaines de ses hommes combattent au côtés des troupes du régime contre les rebelles et les jihadistes. Vendredi, le chef de la puissante formation chiite armée a affirmé qu'il était prêt à aller lui même combattre en Syrie, et a accusé des "terroristes takfiri" (extrémistes sunnites) d'être à l'origine de l'attentat. Le conflit en Syrie a exacerbé les tensions entre les deux principales communautés musulmanes du Liban: les chiites emmenés par le Hezbollah et les sunnites qui soutiennent les rebelles de Syrie. Le pays est paralysé depuis cinq mois, après la démission du gouvernement dominé par le Hezbollah en raison des querelles internes.

ReplyDeleteΛόγω της βομβιστικής επιθεσης στο κέντρο της Βηρυτού σκοτώθηκε ο σύμβουλος των πρώην πρωθυπουργών Σάαντ Χαρίρι και Φουάντ Σινιόρα, πρώην υπουργός Οικονομικών Μοχάμεντ Σατάχ.
Κατά τη διαδρομή της αυτοκινητοπομπής του ανατινάχθηκε ένα παγιδευμένο αυτοκίνητο.
Ο πολιτικός πήγαινε για να πάρει μέρος στη συνεδρίαση του επιτελείου του κινήματος Al-Μουστακμπάλ, ένας από τους ηγέτες του οποίου ήταν.
Η βομβιστική επιθεση στοίχισε τη ζωή τουλάχιστον σε 5 ανθρώπους. Τραυματίστηκαν πάνω από 20 άλλοι.
Λόγω της ισχυρής έκρηξης προξενήθηκαν καταστροφές στις προσόψεις των πλησιέστερων κτιρίων.
Ο τόπος του συμβάντος έχει αποκλειστεί. Οι πυροσβέστες σβήνουν τα καιγόμενα αυτοκίνητα και τα ασθενοφόρα μεταφέρουν τους τραυματίες από τους δρόμους σε νοσοκομεία.

Beirut car bomb kills adviser to former premier...
ReplyDeleteAn explosion has shaken the Lebanese capital Beirut Friday morning, killing an adviser to former Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri.
The blast, which was caused by a car bomb, killed at least five people and wounded 50 others, the Lebanese state news agency reported.
Former Lebanese minister and Future bloc member Mohammad Shattah was killed in the attack.
Shattah, a Sunni Muslim, was on his way to attend a meeting when the explosion occurred.
An hour before he was killed, Shattah tweeted messages slamming the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah.

Un ancien ministre libanais tué dans une explosion à Beyrouth ..........
ReplyDeleteLa capitale du Liban a été secouée vendredi matin par une forte explosion non loin du Sérail, le siège du Premier ministre libanais. Mohammad Chatah, proche conseiller de l'ex-Premier ministre sunnite Saad Hariri, le chef de la coalition hostile au régime syrien, a été tué ainsi que 4 autres personnes. L'explosion a fait une cinquantaine de blessés. Plus de dix immeubles ont également été dévastés. Le programme de la mission au Liban du Premier ministre Elio Di Rupo est maintenu.
Mohammad Chatah, également ex-ministre des Finances, se dirigeait vers la maison de Saad Hariri, absent du pays, où devait se tenir à 09H30 (07H30 GMT) une réunion de la coalition dite du "14-mars", hostile au régime de Bachar al-Assad et appuyant l'opposition syrienne.
Le Liban connaît un regain de violence et craint que la guerre qui déchire la Syrie voisine ne s'étende sur son territoire. DeleteLe chef de la coalition libanaise hostile au régime syrien, Saad Hariri, a mis en cause le Hezbollah chiite allié de Damas dans l’attentat qui a coûté la vie vendredi à son proche conseiller, Mohammad Chatah.
« Pour nous, les accusés sont (…) les mêmes qui se dérobent à la justice internationale, ceux qui refusent de comparaître devant le tribunal international », a indiqué M. Hariri dans un communiqué en référence au Tribunal spécial pour le Liban (TSL) en charge d’identifier et de juger les responsables de l’assassinat en 2005 de son père, le dirigeant Rafic Hariri.
« Ce sont ceux-là mêmes qui exposent le Liban et les Libanais (…) au chaos et propagent l’incendie régional à la nation (libanaise) », a ajouté l’ex-Premier ministre libanais en référence au Hezbollah dont les combattants luttent contre les rebelles en Syrie aux côtés du régime de Damas.
« Ceux qui ont assassiné Mohammad Chatah sont ceux-là mêmes qui ont tué Rafic Hariri et ceux qui veulent assassiner le Liban, humilier et affaiblir l’Etat », a encore souligné M. Hariri, qualifiant l’assassinat de son conseiller et son ami de « nouveau message de terrorisme » qui nous est adressé.
Damas nie être impliquée
Le régime syrien a démenti vendredi toute implication dans l’attentat à Beyrouth qui a coûté la vie à un homme politique libanais hostile à Damas, rejetant les accusations lancées par le camp de la victime.

Number of victims of terrorist attack in Beirut rises to seven people....
ReplyDeleteDeath toll of the explosion in the Lebanese capital that took place on the eve has increased to seven, reported the agency “Associated Press” on Saturday.
According to the agency, a 19 -year-old teenager who was present at the center of Beirut died of serious injuries, when the tragedy occurred. As reported, on Friday morning in the Lebanese capital, car bombs were detonated. The explosion took place at a time when the convoy of former Lebanese Finance Minister Mohammad Shatha was passing by; he is one of the most persistent critics of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. As a result, the ex-minister and six people were killed and 71 got injured. The Lebanese opposition accused Damascus of involvement in the terrorist act, but Syria has rejected these accusations. In connection with the tragedy, the Lebanese government has declared Sunday as a day of mourning.

ReplyDeleteA powerful explosion in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut - stronghold of the Shia armed group Hezbollah - has killed at least five people and left another 20 wounded.
The car bombing occurred during Thursday's rush hour in the Haret Hreik neighbourhood, but casualties were expected to be high given the size and the timing.
"This is in the heart of the Hezbollah stronghold," Al Jazeera's Rula Amin, reporting from Beirut, said. "This is a very busy area, commercial and residential."
An Associated Press news agency reporter on the scene saw two bodies on the street, and at least 10 wounded people.
Images broadcast on Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV showed smoke billowing at the site of the blast, and firefighters putting out several cars that were ablaze.
The footage showed at least one building that had its facade blown off, and several neighbouring buildings were also damaged.
Lebanon has been hit by a wave of bombings in recent months as the civil war in Syria increasingly spills over into its smaller neighbour.
