Unfortunate, incorrect and imperialist was
how Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich described statements by US District
Court Thomas Griesa who had questioned Argentina’s debt swap project
that involves paying bondholders through the country’s Central Bank.
In his daily address to the press, Capitanich said Griesa’s position “interferes” in an “improper” way in Argentina’s sovereign decisions.
“An improper interference of a judge from another country regarding the sovereignty of the Republic of Argentina,” Capitanich said in his daily brief to the press at the government house today.
On Thursday, the New York magistrate declared that an Argentine plan to change the jurisdiction of restructured foreign debt was illegal.
“We expect that in an absolutely agreed way all political players and members of Congress express themselves regarding the unfortunate, incorrect and imperial expression by Judge Griesa,” the head of ministers stated.
