Lists of Syrian opposition for talks with Damascus provided by four countries

To date, four countries have provided their versions of the lists of representatives of the Syrian opposition who may form part of the delegation at the talks with the Syrian government, leader of the Movement for a Pluralistic Society Randa Kassis told a news conference on Thursday.

"So far four countries have submitted their lists of the opposition — Russia, the United States, Egypt and Saudi Arabia," she said.

  • Randa Kassis noted that Saudi Arabia’s list comprised the names of the people who, according to this country, should form a new Syrian government. "It has both representatives of the regime and the opposition," she added.

"Of course, Saudi Arabia is an important player, but we as Syrians cannot agree with the fact a certain country tried to impose the names of the members of the transitional government on us," Kassis said.

"The UN has not yet put forward any specific list," the politician said. According to the movement leader, the meeting between the Syrian government and the opposition "should take place on neutral territory." "So, many problems are yet to be solved," she added.
