Russia remains leader in solving world’s problems - Zakharova

Russia remains the leader in addressing the most pressing global problems even facing the obvious attempts to isolate it, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told journalists on Sunday.

"Of course, we are not isolated, it is clear, we interact not only with those partners that did not act against us, but also with those who declare that we are in isolation," the diplomat said. "However, it is also obvious that attempts to isolate us have been made, and we have quite a serious regress in relations with Western countries."

Zakharova said that even in the conditions of attempts to isolate Russia and sanctions, Moscow "is a leader in addressing a number of the world problems."

"After two years of open pressure at the turn of 2015 and 2016 it was Russia that became a co-chair with the United States in the International Syria Support Group, and it is with Russia, with its policy that the success of the implementation of the peace plan is linked," she said. "This became possible thanks to our principled stance in international affairs, thanks to the hard work in the foreign policy sphere."

"This is an indicator of efficiency," the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

According to her, Moscow is in favor of cooperation, "but on an equal footing, taking into account each other’s mutual interests, with respect for the fundamental principles of sovereignty, and certainly, with due regard for our national interests.".
