The court on Monday found Alexander Alexandrov and his commander, Yevgeny Yerofeyev, guilty of "waging a war of aggression" against Ukraine, assisting a terrorist group, committing an act of terrorism and using weapons to provoke an armed conflict.
Both Alexandrov and Yerofeyev acknowledged being Russian servicemen, but Russia's Defense Ministry said they had resigned from active duty and traveled to Ukraine on their own.
Since their capture, the two have been seen as possible candidates to be exchanged for Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, who was sentenced last month to 22 years in prison in Russia.
Russia has denied sending troops to Ukraine, where Russia-backed separatists have been fighting government troops since April 2014. At least 8,100 people have been killed in the conflict.
