The Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation confirmed that the Russian air force bombed a base of the Syrian rebels, also used by British and American special forces involved in counterterrorism operations in Syria.
Commenting on the message of The Wall Street Joutnal about the attack on the base in TAIF, the official representative of the defense Ministry major General Igor Konashenkov said that the responsibility for the danger to Western troops in Syria lies solely with the command, reports TASS.
Major General Konashenkov said that Russia recently asked Western countries to share information about the location of the bases controlled by Syrian rebels. According to him, during the discussion of the attack on the base in TAIF, the us military transferred the information about the object, but simply asked not to bomb the place that just got bombed.
He added that the only way to minimize risk is the joint struggle against the terrorist organizations in Syria.
Sources in the Pentagon said that Russian aircraft attacked the former base of the government troops in Al-Tape, near the Jordanian border. Now the base is in the hands of the rebels, and it is used by American and British special forces arriving from Jordan for operations against ISIS.
After the first airstrike, the U.S. headquarters in Qatar gave Russia not to bomb this base, but half an hour later there was a second bombing. The Russian pilots did not respond to requests for frequencies for emergency communication.
The Wall Street Journal reports that, according to the American side, the Russian military has provided a convincing explanation of the incident. First they said they bombed the object of the IG, but the Americans said in response that the base differs dramatically from the strong points of IG. Then Moscow said about the bombing asked the Jordanians, but Amman has denied this information. Finally, in the third version of Russia complained that he had not received the coordinates of this base so fired it by mistake.
The Pentagon believes that the attack on the base in Al-TANF has become a part of Russia’s efforts to force the United States to cooperate closely in Syria.
