A thorough investigation into the death of children in Syria’s Idlib needs to be carried out, senior Russian senator Konstantin Kosachev has said, warning against politicizing the incident.
"We always call for carrying out a thorough and comprehensive investigation. Our opponents act always in an opposite way," said Kosachev, who heads the Russian upper house’s foreign affairs committee. "In those cases when such tragedies occur, they must not be politicized."
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said 22 children and six teachers were killed on Wednesday "when their school compound was repeatedly attacked in Idlib, Syria." UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake said "this latest atrocity may be the deadliest attack on a school" since the conflict began in 2011.

The Al Jazeera TV channel and human rights activists close to the Syrian opposition have laid the blame on Russia for the airstrike.
"This approach leads to the continuing deaths, including mass deaths among the civilians in Syria," the senator said. Kosachev stressed that the situation in the country can be rectified only if those who call for ending the war in Syria unite efforts. They should also agree on actions to "suppress the terrorist organizations" that have not laid down arms, he added.[tass.com]
