At least eight Egyptian soldiers have been killed when a group of terrorists launched an attack against a military checkpoint in the Sinai Peninsula with an explosive car, rocket propelled grenades and fire attack.
Egyptian army spokesman Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said in a statement that the terrorists onboard the vehicles “laden with large amounts of explosives” attacked the checkpoint late on Thursday.
Along with the eight killed, a further 12 Egyptian soldiers were wounded, with only three terrorists killed.
No group has claimed responsibility, but it was most likely perpetrated by the ISIS-aligned Velayat Sinai group, previously known as Ansar Beit al-Maqdis.
