European leaders and the President of the United States agreed on Friday to maintain sanctions against Russia, according to the White House.
A White House statement released following Barack Obama's meeting with five European leaders said participants in Friday's summit agreed that sanctions against Russia should be maintained until the conditions of the Minsk ceasefire agreement in eastern Ukraine are met.
Obama was in the German capital Berlin to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May, Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy and Italian PM Matteo Renzi.
Obama himself expressed solidarity with the people of Ukraine on behalf of the US and reiterated his stance that sanctions against Moscow should persist until a ceasefire was reached.
