The expelled Azeri diplomats were stationed in the Azerbaijan's embassy in Tehran and its consulate general in the Iranian northwestern city of Tabriz.
The move was part of Tehran's response to the expulsion of four Iranian diplomats by the Republic of Azerbaijan in April 2023.
Earlier on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani had said a series of practical steps have been taken to clear up misunderstandings with the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of goodwill.
Following an agreement between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan and three rounds of talks, the media atmosphere of the two neighbors has been deescalated, Kanaani said at a weekly presser.
He also noted that practical steps have been taken to correct the misunderstandings between the two neighbors, highlighting the efforts that have been made on the basis of goodwill in this regard.
Following an armed attack on the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran that killed an embassy staffer and injured two others in January, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said Tehran and Baku have strong bonds and won’t allow their relations to be influenced by ill-wishers.
In a telephone conversation with his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev, Raisi said the friendly and brotherly relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan are based on unbreakable cultural and historical ties.
