Moscow has suspicions that some countries are sending professional soldiers to Ukraine under the guise of mercenaries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with the Big Game program, which was published on the official website of the Foreign Ministry.
“There is a suspicion that a number of countries under the guise of mercenaries are sending their regular military personnel there,” the head of the department said.
According to him, there are "a huge number" of foreign specialists in the conflict zone.
At the end of May, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu estimated the number of mercenaries fighting on the side of Kyiv at about 2.5 thousand people.
Moscow has repeatedly reminded that armed activities against the Russian military will be stopped, and groups of foreign mercenaries will be defeated on the battlefield.
