To further support Ukraine, EU countries should increase their contributions. This was announced on June 30 by the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen.
“Over the past 16 months, we have already taken €30 billion from the EU budget for financial support for Ukraine, not to mention other types of assistance. These were funds from the "airbag" that exists in the budget. It is exhausted, so the political question we have to answer is how we will support Ukraine further. Additional contributions were not discussed today, we will discuss them with the finance ministers in the near future,” she said at a press conference.
Earlier, on June 26, the EU Council approved an increase of €3.5 billion in the volume of the European Peace Fund, from which funds are allocated for weapons for Kyiv.
The total financial flow of the fund is €12 billion. Every few months, €500 million is allocated from it for arms supplies to Ukraine.
