296 killed as powerful quake hits Morocco

Morocco’s Interior Ministry said that at least 296 people had died as a result of the earthquake, according to news reports.

More than 150 injured people have been sent to hospitals for treatment, the ministry said.

Most of the casualties and damage occurred near the epicentre of the quake in provincial areas, it added.
