Austria will introduce controls on the border with Slovakia

Austria will introduce controls on the border with Slovakia from midnight the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.

“Interior Minister Gerhard Karner announced on October 3, 2023 that Austria will resume border controls with Slovakia from midnight on October 4, 2023,” the ministry said in a statement.

Carner also said that the measure was intended to combat the illegal movement of migrants.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there is a risk that after the decision of Poland and the Czech Republic to introduce controls on the border with Slovakia for 10 days, routes for the illegal movement of migrants will shift to Austrian territory, and the introduced measure is designed to prevent this.
