Hamas fighters clashed with an Israeli force that infiltrated the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to the group's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades.
According to the group, the Israeli infiltration took place east of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.
"The militants engaged the infiltrating force, destroying two bulldozers and a tank and forcing the infiltrating force to withdraw, before returning safely to the base," the Hamas statement said.
A little earlier, the Israeli army announced the conduct of limited-scale ground operations during the night inside the Gaza Strip against Palestinian militants and in search of hostages.
Israel's military said on Monday that ground forces mounted limited raids into the Gaza Strip overnight to fight Palestinian gunmen and that air strikes were being focused on sites where Hamas was assembling to attack any wider Israeli invasion.

The Israeli army lost at least 308 servicemen as of October 23, Hagari added.
He also said that the Israeli military had captured over 1,000 supporters of the radical movement Hamas.
