Hungary and Slovakia opposed the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine. Statements were made by Prime Ministers Viktor Orbán and Robert Fico. The information is provided by the Politico newspaper.
Fico explained that his decision was caused by the high level of corruption in Ukraine. Orban proposed developing a new strategy for Ukraine. In his opinion, it should be based on a ceasefire and negotiations. Orban also proposed to find out what kind of financial assistance Ukraine will need.
The decision to allocate 50 billion euros to the Kyiv authorities requires consensus - uniform approval by all 27 EU members.
Financial assistance to Ukraine, as previously reported, is designed for the period from 2024 to 2027. Prior to this, the European Union, during a summit in Brussels, was unable to agree on changes to the multi-year budget, which included multi-billion dollar aid to Kyiv.
