The Russian city of Belgorod was targeted by another round of Ukrainian shelling late Thursday, officials said, hours after schools in the region were ordered to extend their holiday closures due to the risk of further attacks.
At least two people were wounded in the latest shelling, Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said, as Telegram channels circulated what appeared to be images of damaged cars in the city near the Ukraine border.
More than 30 passenger cars were damaged and 130 windows were broken as a result of a shelling attack on the city of Belgorod, the city’s Mayor Valentin Demidov said.
"By now, we have information about damage to more than 30 cars. Apart from that, some 130 windows were broken in houses in Pochtovaya and Makarenko Streets," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to earlier reports, two men received shrapnel wounds and were taken to a hospital.
