Vladimir Zelensky criticized the position of US presidential candidate, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and congressional Republicans blocking the release of aid to Ukraine; according to him, any delay hits the country’s state budget and puts vulnerable categories of the population, including pensioners, at risk.
During a speech to reporters in Riga, Zelensky was asked how he felt about the statements of Desantis, who is outraged by the fact that money from the United States goes to pay Ukrainian officials and pensioners. Zelensky responded that Desantis could change his position and give millions to the Ukrainian military.
“They (Republicans) and people like him refused to help our military with salaries and said that this is a question exclusively for Ukraine. And then say that we cannot (allocate assistance to the military), because we are a NATO country and We can’t support the war... They didn’t give military salaries, we needed help for the budget,” Zelensky replied.
He said that if there is a delay in the provision of financial assistance from partners, vulnerable categories of the population will suffer. In particular, according to him, there are about 12 million pensioners in Ukraine who will simply die out if they are not given a pension.
