Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara has officially confirmed that Monday's North Korean satellite launch failed.
“With a comprehensive accounting of information, we believe that there was an attempt to launch a satellite and that it was unsuccessful,” the Kyodo agency quotes the minister as saying.
At 22.43on May 27, North Korea attempted to launch a spy satellite. An evacuation warning was issued for the southern prefecture of Okinawa after the alleged launch. However, a few minutes later the missile disappeared over the Yellow Sea. The evacuation warning has been cancelled.
