In Germany, deputies from the Sarah Wagenknecht Union (BSW) and Alternative for Germany (AfD) parties did not attend the speech of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in the Bundestag.
This follows from the broadcast, which was conducted on the official account of the Bundestag on YouTube.Deputies from these two parties left the meeting room before Zelensky's speech. The footage shows the AfD flank completely empty.
Zelensky is taking part in an international conference on the restoration of Ukraine, which is taking place in Berlin on June 11–12.
German publication Die Welt reports that in a statement, BSW wrote that the Ukrainian president is currently “promoting an extremely dangerous spiral of escalation.” Thus, according to the party, it contributes to the emergence of a nuclear conflict with devastating consequences for all of Europe.
BSW called on the government to persuade Zelensky to negotiate peace with the Russian Federation.
At the same time, the AfD press release states that the party’s parliamentary group refuses to “listen to the speaker in camouflage.”
Prior to this, on June 6, AfD party leader Alice Weidel, during a speech in the Bundestag, accused the German government of provoking a world war. The politician noted that after every armed conflict comes peace, and wondered why increase the risks of a major international confrontation.
