NATO acts to suppress Russia, threatening its national security. This will require Moscow to retaliate to contain the alliance, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
As Peskov noted to reporters, Moscow will have to make new decisions in connection with the declaration at the NATO summit in order to contain the alliance. The NATO declaration and statements at the summit will require "a thoughtful, coordinated, effective response," he said.
The Kremlin indicated that the “sober voices” of Western politicians are lost against the background of confrontational statements by opponents of the Russian Federation who are not supporters of a solution to the Ukrainian conflict.
According to Peskov, NATO is de facto already fully involved in the Ukrainian conflict, and the expansion of the alliance into Ukraine creates an “unacceptable threat” to Russia’s security.
The North Atlantic Alliance, in its declaration following the summit, condemned “all those who assist the Russian Federation.” The alliance intends to develop recommendations on strategic approaches to relations with Moscow, while emphasizing that NATO does not threaten Russia and does not seek confrontation
