The European Commission has urged the Mexican government to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he attends the inauguration of President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum later this year.
Commission spokesperson for foreign affairs, Peter Stano, said that Mexico’s membership of the International Criminal Court (ICC) means it is legally obliged to arrest Putin if he accepts the Latin American country’s invitation to attend the ceremony in Mexico City on 1 October.
