Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and agreed to boost military cooperation between the two isolated nations, Pyongyang state media said Saturday.
The US and South Korea have accused the nuclear-armed North of sending more than 10,000 soldiers to help Russia fight Ukraine, with experts saying Kim is eager to gain advanced technology and battle experience for his troops in return.
Kim, who met Belousov on Friday, blasted the recent decision by Western powers to permit Kyiv to strike inside Russia with their weapons, saying it constituted a “direct military intervention in the conflict,” according to KCNA.
Kim Jong Un received Belousov on November 29.
"The talks featured a broad exchange of views on issues related to further deepening and development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the DPRK and the Russian Federation, in such fields as defense, protection of sovereignty, security interests of both states and international justice in the context of the dramatic changes in the regional and international security environment," the news agency said.
"The counterparts came to a satisfactory common opinion," the report said.
Kim Jong Un described the Russian defense minister's visit as useful because it "makes a great contribution to strengthening the defense and security capabilities of the two countries, stimulates friendship, mutual cooperation and development of relations between the militaries of the two countries.".

"La ratificación del Tratado de asociación estratégica integral de nuestros países confirma el interés bilateral en el desarrollo integral de las relaciones aliadas. Le agradecemos el compromiso con la ruta de profundizar los lazos con Rusia", expresó Beloúsov en una reunión con el líder de Corea del Norte, Kim Jong-un.
El titular ruso destacó que Corea del Norte "es uno de los pocos países que lleva a cabo una política exterior absolutamente independiente" y lo atribuyó al mérito de Kim.
