Iranian ‘revenge’ strikes kill two, cause damage across central Israel

The Iranians have said very specifically said that the missile attacks on Israel is revenge for these assassinations [of Larijani and Soleimani].

In the last hour, sirens sounded over central Israel following a new strike. The exact damage is not yet clear. A previous strike in the same area did cause damage, in Tel Aviv and its suburbs, including Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan, where two people were killed – a couple in their 70s.

A neighbour told Israeli media that a hole was blown in the middle of their living room. “The strike was direct. They have a safe room, but they didn’t have time to get there.”

There were also injuries reported in the Sharon area and Bnei Brak, and one of Tel Aviv’s central train stations was damaged. Rail travel across the country was temporarily suspended.

More generally, about a hundred rockets a day are coming over to northern Israel from Hezbollah. Then we have these Iranian missiles coming in too. Often they are coordinated, so they arrive at the same time. It’s a strain on Israel’s air defence system.

Most projectiles are intercepted, but some get through. In some cases, it is the interceptors themselves that cause the damage. There is suspicion that this was the case in Ramat Gan, and an investigation is ongoing into a separate incident from a few days ago where an interceptor, rather than an incoming rocket, is believed to have caused the damage.[aljazeera]

It added that there are reports of damaged vehicles in the city of Holon, with some of them on fire.
