Strait of Hormuz closed only for those who violate Iran’s borders

The Strait of Hormuz is closed only for ships from those countries that violate Iran’s borders, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said.

"The illusion of erasing Iran from the map shows desperation against the will of a history-making nation. Threats and terror only strengthen our unity. The Strait of Hormuz is open to all except those who violate our soil," he wrote on his X page.

Ships, excluding "enemy" vessels, may transit the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with Tehran, Ali Mousavi, Iran's permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), said on Sunday.

"Vessels can pass through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with Tehran. The strait is open to everyone except enemies," Mousavi was quoted as saying by the Al-Alam broadcaster.

Iran stands ready to work with other nations and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to enhance navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz, Mousavi added.

  1. Iran’s military threatened on Sunday to completely shut down the strategic Strait of Hormuz if US President Donald Trump acts on threats to target the country’s power plants.

Trump has given Iran 48 hours to reopen the strait which has been effectively closed since the start of the war sparked on February 28 by US-Israeli bombardment of Iran.

  2. The Strait of Hormuz remains open to all shipping except vessels linked to “Iran’s enemies,” Iranian media reports published on Sunday quoted Iran’s representative to the UN maritime agency as saying.

Ali Mousavi’s comments came from an interview published on Friday by Chinese news agency Xinhua, before US President Donald Trump’s threat to target Iranian power plants if the strait was not “fully open” within 48 hours.
