US Senate rejects prohibiting use of force against Iran without congressional approval

The US Senate rejected a resolution demanding that the US administration be prohibited from using military force against Iran without congressional permission.

During the procedural vote, 47 senators voted in favor of the document, while 52 voted against it. To be approved by the upper house of Congress, which is controlled by the Republican Party, the document needed a simple majority of lawmakers to support it during the procedural and final votes.

A vote on a similar resolution is expected Thursday in the House of Representatives, which is also controlled by the party of President Donald Trump.
