Trump extends Iran ceasefire

Donald Trump has extended his ceasefire with Iran just hours before it was due to expire, but key disputes between the US and Iran remain unresolved.

Trump said the ceasefire will stay in place until Tehran submits a proposal, and talks on ending the war are completed.

The move came after the US and Iran failed to take part in another anticipated round of talks in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has thanked US President Donald Trump for extending the ceasefire and assured that he would make every effort to resolve the Iran-US conflict.

  2. US President Donald Trump believes a deal with Iran will be impossible if the naval blockade is lifted.

"Iran doesn’t want the Strait of Hormuz closed, they want it open so they can make $500 million dollars a day. They only say they want it closed because I have it totally blockaded, so they merely want to ‘save face’," Trump wrote on his Truth Social page. "But if we do that, there can never be a deal with Iran," he added.

    1. US President Trump has posted more statements on his Truth Social platform addressing the ongoing maritime standoff with Iran.

In his latest post, Trump states: “Iran doesn’t want the Strait of Hormuz closed, they want it open so they can make $500 Million Dollars a day (which is, therefore, what they are losing if it is closed!).”

“They only say they want it closed because I have it totally BLOCKADED (CLOSED!), so they merely want to ‘save face’,” he continued.

  4. The extension of the ceasefire with Iran announced by Washington is a ploy and will allow it to prepare a new surprise attack on Iran, said Mahdi Mohammadi, the parliament (Majlis) speaker’s adviser.

"Trump’s ceasefire extension is certainly a ploy to buy time for a surprise strike," he wrote on social media X.

  5. US President Donald Trump extended a ceasefire with Iran to allow more time for peace talks, as Tehran's deadline to end the pause came and went without incident.

Mr Trump indefinitely pushed back the end of the two week truce, crediting a request from mediator Pakistan and stressing the need to give Iran's "fractured" leadership time to form a proposal.

However, he said the US blockade of Iran's ports - a sticking point for Tehran - would continue.
