The United States could extend its naval blockade of Iran for months more, oil executives were told in a meeting with President Donald Trump, a White House official said Wednesday.
Participants at a White House meeting, which took place Tuesday and was first reported by Axios, discussed “the steps President Trump has taken to alleviate global oil markets and steps we could take to continue the current blockade for months if needed and minimize impact on American consumers,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“The President meets with energy executives frequently to get their feedback on domestic and international energy markets,” the official said, with topics including “domestic production, progress in Venezuela, oil futures, natural gas, and shipping.”

ReplyDeleteUS President Donald Trump warned Tehran on Wednesday that it should “get smart soon” and capitulate to Washington’s demands for tight controls on its nuclear programme, as a US naval blockade turned the screws on Iran’s economy.
The US could extend its naval blockade of Iran for months more, oil executives were told in a meeting with Trump, an official said, after press reports that he had rejected Iran’s latest proposed deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Il presidente statunitense Donald Trump ha dichiarato ad Axios che manterrà il blocco navale contro l'Iran finché il regime non accetterà un accordo che affronti le preoccupazioni degli Stati Uniti riguardo al suo programma nucleare.
ReplyDeleteTrump ha dichiarato ad Axios di considerare il blocco "in qualche modo più efficace dei bombardamenti", e le fonti hanno affermato che fino a martedì sera non aveva ancora ordinato alcuna azione militare:
«Il blocco è in qualche modo più efficace dei bombardamenti. Stanno soffocando come un maiale ripieno. E per loro andrà ancora peggio. Non possono avere un'arma nucleare.
Vogliono trovare un accordo. Non vogliono che io mantenga il blocco. Io non voglio [revocare il blocco], perché non voglio che abbiano un'arma nucleare».
Per ora, Trump considera il mantenimento del blocco come la sua principale leva negoziale, ma, stando alle fonti, prenderebbe in considerazione un'azione militare se l'Iran non dovesse ancora cedere. Nell'intervista telefonica di mercoledì, durata circa 15 minuti, ha rifiutato di parlare di eventuali piani militari.
