Trump says Iran deal 'largely negotiated' including reopening Strait of Hormuz

United States President Donald Trump has said that a Memorandum of Understanding in ceasefire talks to end the US-Israel war with Iran “has been largely negotiated”.

Trump said on Saturday that the agreement will include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, adding that it remained “subject to finalization” by US and Iranian negotiators and “various other countries”.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei earlier told state television that US and Iranian positions had been converging in the last week, but warned that did not mean agreements would be reached on key issues and accused the Americans of "contradictory statements".

A draft bilateral memorandum on peace between the United States and Iran envisages extending the ceasefire by 60 days, during which talks on a full-fledged peace agreement will continue, the Axios portal said, citing the document.

During the ceasefire, navigation via the Strait of Hormuz will resume, and Iran will be able to sell its oil freely.

  3. The deal includes an "apparent commitment" by Iran to give up its highly enriched uranium, the New York Times reported, citing two unidentified US officials.

Details of how Iran would cede that stockpile would be left for a subsequent round of talks, the newspaper quoted the officials as saying.
