Israel appears to have halted a threatened military "campaign" against Beirut’s southern suburbs amid sharp diplomatic warnings from Iran that the ceasefire with the US was dependent on “a comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts, including Lebanon”.
The suspended attack also followed urgent communication between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump announced on social media that he had spoken to Netanyahu and that “there will be no troops going to Beirut, and any troops that are on their way have already turned back”.

Ebrahim Azizi, the head of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee, has joined other top officials in Tehran to publicly warn of severe consequences for Israel and US forces in the region if Israeli attacks against Lebanon do not stop.
ReplyDeletePosting on X, he wrote: “If the attacks against Lebanon do not stop completely, the consequences will be severe for the Zionist regime and US forces in the region.
“They are fully aware that this is not an empty threat, and we are prepared for a military response.”
The United States and Iran could finalize a memorandum of understanding next week, US President Donald Trump announced.

The American leader added, however, that he had not agreed to the previous version of the document because he still has to get a few more points" to be included in the memorandum.
