Senior Iran military official says Israel’s attack on Beirut will not go ‘unanswered’, Israel raises alert level

A senior Iranian military official warned on Sunday that Israel’s strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs would not go “unanswered” by Tehran, according to local media.

“Without a doubt, these crimes will not go unanswered,” Brigadier General Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy commander of Iran’s highest military command, told the state-affiliated Defa Press news agency following the attack.

Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also said that there was “no point” in continuing peace talks with the US after its ally Israel attacked Beirut’s southern suburbs.

  1. The spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission has warned against pursuing a deal with the United States without first restraining Israel following its attack on Beirut.

“One must not fall into a calculation error. Even if you seek agreement or understanding, its path is disciplining the Zionist regime. If this rabid dog is not controlled the ink of an agreement not yet dry will bite our own foot,” Ebrahim Rezaei wrote on X.

  2. Israel notified the US military about a strike on Beirut shortly before it took place, Axios and Israel’s Channel 12 correspondent Barak Ravid said, citing sources.

"The Israeli military notified CENTCOM (US Central Command - TASS) shortly before the strike in Beirut took place, Israeli and U.S. officials say," he wrote on X.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said earlier that it had delivered a strikes on a Hezbollah office in Beirut’s Dahieh neighborhood in response to a shelling attack on the Israeli territory.

According to the Al Hadath television channel, a Hezbollah commander was killed in this air raid.

  3. The Israeli attack on Dahiyeh once again shows the US “either lacks the will to fulfil its commitments or the ability to do so”, Iran’s top negotiator says.

“By giving the green light to the [Israeli] regime you cannot gain concessions. The game of bad cop and good cop is outdated,” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is also Iran’s parliament speaker, said on X.

“If you lack the will and ability to fulfil your commitments, speaking of continuing the path is not possible,” he added.

Ghalibaf’s comments come after Israel’s attack on a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut killed at least three people and wounded 15.

  8. Israel should not have attacked the Lebanese capital city ahead of the signing of a peace deal between the United States and Iran, US President Donald Trump has said.

"This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran< he wrote on his Truth Social platform. "Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process.".
