He attributed this to the resumption of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
The maritime corridor will be fully reopened on June 19.
Thanks to the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, global oil prices have begun to decline rapidly, the American president added.
Oil prices dropped below $80 a barrel Tuesday on optimism over the promised reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, easing inflation pressures on global economies even though traders are eyeing the risk of Iranian "service fees" on ships transiting the strait.

The United States could soon reimpose sanctions on Russia's oil shipment, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday at the Group of Seven (G7) summit in France, where efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine are high on the agenda.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking to reporters in Evian, a town on the shores of Lake Geneva in eastern France, Trump said the restrictions on Russia's oil shipment can return after the openness of the Strait of Hormuz allows more oil transit. "We're in a position to do that soon," he was quoted as saying, citing a peace deal reached with Iran over the weekend.
In March, the U.S. Treasury issued a 30-day waiver allowing countries to purchase Russian crude oil and petroleum products that were already loaded on vessels and stranded at sea. The waiver was later extended as the conflict involving Iran and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz continued to pressure oil markets.

ReplyDeleteUS intelligence agencies have assessed that Iran can now effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz at will — a powerful new capability acquired as a direct result of the war, three sources tell CNN.
Delete“We have now handed Iran de facto control over the strait — a weapon more powerful than any nuke,” one source familiar with the assessments tells CNN.
Iran has also learned it can leverage targeted strikes against Gulf energy infrastructure and potentially deploy Houthi forces to close the Bab-el-Mandeb strait as an economic “nuclear option” if negotiations collapse.
