Turkey says it will keep supporting Syrian military capacity development

Turkey will continue supporting Syria’s efforts to develop its own military capacity and infrastructure, the defense ministry said on Thursday, after Israel carried out air strikes on a Syrian air base and warned Ankara against what it called “dangerous adventures” there.

At its weekly briefing, the ministry said there was no Turkish military delegation at the air base hit by Israel before or during the air strikes, and reiterated Ankara’s call for the international community to take more concrete and effective measures against Israel’s actions, which it said threatened regional peace and stability.[AFP]

  1. No Turkish military delegation was present at Syria's Abu al-Duhur Airbase before or during a recent Israeli attack on the facility, Türkiye's National Defense Ministry said Thursday.

"We confirm that no Turkish military delegation was present at Syria's Abu al-Duhur Airbase before or during the Israeli attack," the ministry said in response to reporters' questions following its weekly press briefing aboard the TCG Kochisar in the northwestern province of Kocaeli as part of TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland.

The ministry described the Israeli attack on the military airbase as "an act aimed at harming Syria's stability, security, unity and integrity, as well as its infrastructure."

"We emphasize at every opportunity that attacks violating Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity are unacceptable," it said.

  2. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday warned Türkiye against "dangerous adventures" in Syria, as tensions escalated after Israel struck a Syrian airbase over alleged plans to deploy Turkish troops there.
