Pyongyang warns of a "terrible nuclear catastrophe" due to U.S. actions

U.S. actions regarding the development and proliferation of nuclear weapons could lead to terrible consequences, the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) stated on Tuesday.

"If U.S. nuclear proliferation actions, both vertical and horizontal, continue to be tolerated, Pandora's box will be thrown wide open, and a terrible nuclear catastrophe will befall humanity," it declared.

According to the statement, Washington openly transfers nuclear technologies to its allies and massively deploys its own nuclear strike assets in the territories of other states under the pretext of providing a "nuclear umbrella" and "extended deterrence."

Pyongyang also noted that the U.S. is enlisting the help of its partners, including Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Canada, in an attempt to transform the AUKUS bloc into "the world's largest nuclear-powered submarine alliance."

The Ministry stated that the U.S. developed "nuclear operation guidelines" with South Korea and formalized the activities of the Nuclear Consultative Group, subsequently committing to include nuclear capabilities in the "extended deterrence" provided to Japan.

The DPRK considers this to demonstrate the true nature of the "trilateral political-military cooperation system among the U.S., Japan, and South Korea, which, under U.S. leadership, is increasingly evolving into a nuclear alliance."
