The television station has obtained an internal U.S. Army document that, according to its sources, is linked to ongoing military planning regarding Cuba.
The armed forces reserve is assessing whether it can provide a complete force package to Southern Command within the next four months: a military police brigade, a medical brigade, a forward surgical team, an engineer battalion, as well as transport, maintenance, and supply units.
The document states that these forces "may be required in 90–120 days." No specific deployment location or type of operation is mentioned.
CBS notes that the US military had previously conducted reconnaissance of maritime approaches to Cuba and that planners had examined several scenarios in July, including an airborne operation involving thousands of troops from the 101st Division.
However, no deployment order for troops has been issued to date: the development of military scenarios does not in itself mean that a decision to launch an operation has been made.
