Lecornu did not rule out declaring a state of emergency in France due to widespread unrest

 French authorities are considering the possibility of declaring a state of emergency amid ongoing mass unrest in the country. 

This was announced on October 19 by Sébastien Lecornu.

"It is, after all, a serious matter, including in terms of its implementation. So, if it becomes necessary, we could obviously do it," France 24 quotes Lecornu as saying.

The official explained that, at this stage, a curfew would be a more appropriate response to the current situation in the cities.

 However, a final decision on whether to implement a state of emergency will depend on how events unfold.
