Macron oversees the first launch of the M51.3 ballistic missile from a French nuclear submarine

The new missile was launched from the nuclear submarine Le Vigilant. 

Macron presented the test as a demonstration of France's nuclear deterrent capability.

"To be free, one must be feared. And to be feared, one must be powerful," the French president declared.
