Former Prime Minister Yair Lapid, who heads the Yesh Atid party that is part of the main opposition alliance, says Netanyahu’s electoral bloc has been thoroughly defeated in the election.
“Don’t let them confuse you: The Netanyahu bloc suffered a harsh defeat,” he wrote on X, reacting to the first exit polls.
“This is a total collapse and the public told them to get lost and go home,” he said.
Alec Haim Pollard, an Israeli author and political commentator based in Tel Aviv, says Israel could be heading to another election considering the deadlock projected by the exit polls.
“All coalition scenarios look somewhat unlikely in the current numbers that we have,” Pollard told Al Jazeera.
He said a lot could happen in the negotiations, but another round of elections looks like a “a very realistic possibility” based on the exit poll numbers.
