Former U.S. President Barack Obama stated on October 24, at a Democratic Party event, that "Iran has veto power over the Strait of Hormuz" and that this is the cause of the recent price crisis in his country.
"Iran now has veto power over the Strait of Hormuz, through which oil passes to the global market," he noted during the event.
"That is the reason why the price of oil has gone up. No one disputes that. That is the reason why the price of diesel has gone up. This is the reason why the price of almost everything has gone up," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Democratic senators are threatening to investigate U.S. companies that participate in the temporary easing of sanctions on Russian diesel, a measure promoted by Washington to increase fuel supply. According to analysts, these warnings could deter companies from cooperating, ultimately driving up costs even further for consumers and workers in the United States.
