The Pentagon is reinforcing Israel’s air defenses as military preparations point to the possibility of a new, potentially intense confrontation with Iran after the November 3 midterm elections, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The additional Patriot battery is part of a broader US military buildup across the Middle East. American forces have reportedly moved personnel away from bases vulnerable to Iranian attacks, replenished ammunition stocks, and begun preparing combat aircraft for possible operations.
The buildup could expand further in November, with another aircraft carrier strike group and a Marine Expeditionary Unit expected to join US naval forces already operating in the region.
US officials have also reportedly urged Gulf states to brace for a brief but intense confrontation with Iran in the aftermath of the midterm elections, a sign that the White House is preparing regional partners for a possible escalation.
Further strikes may do little to force Tehran into submission, given that Iran endured more than 20,000 US and Israeli strikes during the most intense phase of the war.
