The United States has warned several Gulf nations to prepare for a potential short, intense military campaign against Iran following the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing various sources.
These communications, conveyed through diplomatic and military channels, add to a growing number of signs that Washington is preparing to launch a new offensive against the Persian nation, risking a significant escalation in the hope of weakening Tehran’s influence and compelling it to enter into new negotiations, the outlet notes.
According to sources, the U.S. military has been reinforcing its missile defenses and relocating troops from vulnerable bases. Furthermore, forces in the region have restocked ammunition and are preparing combat aircraft for potential strikes.
Additionally, a carrier strike group and a Marine expeditionary unit are set to join a fleet of approximately 20 warships in the Middle East next month, though some vessels may rotate in and out.
According to the sources, U.S. President Donald Trump is leaning toward a large-scale strike against Iranian infrastructure and nuclear sites, although he has not yet made a final decision. Meanwhile, Israel is also reportedly preparing to resume strikes.
