Iran sets conditions for the U.S.: 48-hour 'express plan'

Iran has offered the United States an "express plan" with a 48-hour timeframe, demanding concessions in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resolving the crisis. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in an interview with Al Jazeera that the proposal, drafted during recent consultations between Tehran and intermediaries from Qatar and Pakistan, is essentially the same 7-day plan that Iran had previously presented during the UN General Assembly.

The difference is that they have now managed to shorten the 7-day window to just 2 days. Under this "2-day plan," the U.S. would take a series of steps on the first day, and by the second day, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, allowing maritime traffic to resume, he explained.

"The conditions the U.S. is expected to meet are nothing extraordinary. They were all included in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding," the Iranian foreign minister summarized. He noted that, "naturally, some new elements have emerged; for instance, Clause 9 of the memorandum stipulated that the U.S. would neither impose new sanctions nor increase its military presence in the region."

"It is logical that we seek the lifting of all new sanctions imposed since the signing of the memorandum of understanding, as well as a reduction in military forces, returning them to their previous levels. The lifting of the blockade is also on the table, as is the implementation of the oil exemptions that were originally intended to be granted," he explained.

"By accepting our proposal, which now consists of a two-day plan, they can pave the way toward peace, facilitate a return to normalcy in the Strait of Hormuz and in daily life, and rescue the region, and, indeed, the entire world, from this anomalous situation," concluded Araghchi.
