Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei stated that the U.S. response regarding the country’s rights and demands was, in the view of the authorities, "unconvincing."
According to Rezaei, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened only if the American side provides a clear response regarding each of the conditions.
Meanwhile, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has said a return to war would benefit “no one”, following reports of US strikes on Qeshm Island.
Pezeshkian said Tehran was still trying to resolve the crisis “through dialogue”, adding that Iran’s Supreme Leader had recently granted the government new powers to negotiate issues that were previously “off-limits”.
Since the escalation began in February, Iran has repeatedly attacked Israel, as well as many countries in the Middle East, including Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Iranian authorities claimed that the attacks were aimed at U.S. military bases.
They also denied that Turkey had been targeted.
Middle Eastern states have criticized Iran’s actions; notably, the UAE closed its embassy in the country and recalled its ambassador, while Saudi Arabia threatened Iran with retaliatory strikes.
