The UAE’s National Guard says it has rescued 22 people after a fire broke out on a cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman.
In a statement posted on X, the National Guard said it responded to a report from the ship’s crew that a fire had broken out on board. It added that specialised teams located the tanker and rescued all 22 people of Arab nationality on board.
“They provided the necessary first aid before handing them over to the relevant authorities, with all of them in stable condition,” the statement said.
The statement did not specify the cause of the fire.
The incident came after Iran’s IRGC said two oil tankers had struck mines near the Strait of Hormuz and caught fire.
The IRGC said the tankers had attempted to use an unauthorised route through the waterway with their navigation and positioning systems switched off. It accused both vessels of multiple violations, saying one was hit east of the strait and the other inside it.
