Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on Sunday offered to hold early elections in late 2015 to clinch a crucial presidential vote next week that could affect the country's economic future.

"We can find the proper timeframe for national elections, even at the end of 2015", provided a president is elected and crunch EU-IMF loan talks are concluded, Samaras said in a nationally televised address.

BRICS set to launch development bank (to lift global status of emerging economies)

Leaders of the five major emerging economies, known as BRICS, are expected to inaugurate a development bank and a currency reserve fund at their annual meeting, marking the first concrete step to expand the group's influence.

Chinese premier concludes fruitful Europe tour

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang left here for home on Saturday, wrapping up a six-day trip to Britain and Greece that infused fresh vigor into China's ties and cooperation with the two countries and with Europe as a whole.

Premier Li hails China-Greece cooperation on PCT project

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang applauded on Friday the success of the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) project jointly operated by China and Greece, calling it a "pearl" in bilateral cooperation.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and his Greek counterpart Antonis Samaras on Thursday hailed the traditional friendship between their two countries and expected more win-win cooperation in the future.

At a joint press conference after their meeting, Premier Li appreciated the assistance offered by Greece to help Chinese nationals evacuate from violence-hit Libya in 2011, and expressed China's firm belief in Greece to tackle the difficulties brought by its debt crisis.

Chinese premier arrives in Greece for visit

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Athens Thursday for an official visit, his first trip to Greece since taking office in 2013.

Li is scheduled to meet with top Greek leaders, including President Karolos Papoulias, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Parliament Speaker Evangelos Vasileios Meimarakis.

During the visit, both countries are expected to sign more than 20 cooperation agreements and business contracts on trade, investment, finance, shipping, technology, culture and quality inspection, according to Chinese Ambassador to Greece Zou Xiaoli.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's upcoming visit to Greece will boost bilateral cooperation and facilitate various business deals, as the Mediterranean country is ready for more vigor from overseas investment, analysts said.

During the second leg of his two-nation trip to Europe, Li will attend a bilateral ocean cooperation forum and visit Greece's biggest port, Piraeus, with his Greek counterpart Antonis Samaras, China's Vice Foreign Minister Wang Chao announced earlier.

China's China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company has been operating two container wharfs in Piraeus for four years.

It was the first time a Chinese corporation was given a long-term concession to operate a large port in Europe.

Merkel praises Greek progress to exit crisis, launches new fund in Athens

German Chancellor Angela Merkel sent a message of confidence in Greek economy during a visit to Athens Friday, praising her hosts for the progress achieved in the battle to exit the financial crisis, a day after the country successfully returned to international bond markets for borrowing for first time since 2010.

In her second visit to Athens since the beginning of the crisis, the German leader pointed to Greece's growing potential after the painful austerity and reform program, warning that the country must continue on this difficult road of changes to reach full economic recovery through development.
