Russia has right to shoot down Starlink satellites — US analyst

Russia would be fully within its right to destroy Starlink satellites that are used by Ukrainian forces, Major Jeremy Grunert, an officer in the US Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps, said at a conference in Belfast.

France wants to make D-Day beaches World Heritage site

French President Francois Hollande on Friday asked to recognize D-Day beaches in Normandy, north France as UNESCO World Heritage site.

"On the beaches of Normandy, souls of combatants are still floating. On these calm beaches, one wind blows. It's the wind of freedom. In the name of France, I wish the beaches will be listed as World Heritage by UNESCO," said Hollande during a ceremony in Sword beach in Ouistreham, northwestern France.

Following the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, Vladimir Putin answered questions from journalists.

QUESTION: During this visit, you had three officially planned meetings: with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the President of France and the Chancellor of Germany. Putin meets Ukrainian president-elect during D-Day ceremony (for 15 minutes)

PARIS, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday held talks with the newly-elect Ukrainian head of state Petro Poroshenko, on the sidelines of D-day landings commemoration in Normandy, north France, local medias reported.

Citing source close to the presidency office, the Elysee, the news channel BFMTV said Putin spoke with Poroshenko for 15 minutes about possible measures to de-escalate violence in Ukraine.

Reuters, June 06, 2014,. - China used the 70th anniversary of World War II D-Day landings on Friday to praise Germany for its contrition over its wartime past and slam Japan for what Beijing views as Tokyo's continued denial of its brutal history.
China has increasingly contrasted Germany and its public remorse for the Nazi regime to Japan, where repeated official apologies for wartime suffering are sometimes undercut by contradictory comments by conservative politicians.

Als erster führender Politiker des Westens hat Großbritanniens Premier Cameron den russischen Präsidenten Putin in Paris getroffen. Der Handschlag blieb aus - und Cameron soll in Sachen Ukraine klare Worte für Putin gefunden haben. 

Der britische Premierminister David Cameron hat Russlands Präsidenten Wladimir Putin aufgefordert, den neugewählten Staatschef der Ukraine formell anzuerkennen und mit ihm zusammen zu arbeiten.

Putin and Cameron meet in France, "avoid handshake" upon greeting


Putin and Cameron on Thursday met at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport, where they arrived ahead of celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the WWII allied landing operation against Nazi Germany.
However, it became clear from the start that despite celebrations, the D-Day meetings are doomed to be overshadowed by tensions over the situation in Ukraine. According to Itar-Tass, the leaders started their meeting “without a traditional handshake.”
Despite the cold start, the talks went on according to etiquette, with Putin and Cameron shaking hands “not on camera,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Russia criticises Prince Charles over reports he likened Putin to Hitler

Russia criticised Britain's Prince Charles on Thursday over reports that he likened President Vladimir Putin to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler for annexing part of Ukraine.
"If these words were truly spoken, then without doubt, they do not reflect well on the future British monarch," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told a news conference.

Britain's Prince Charles compares Putin to Hitler.(Daily Mail)

LONDON: Britain's Prince Charles stoked controversy during a visit to Canada by comparing the recent actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin's to those of Adolf Hitler, the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday.

The British newspaper said several witnesses heard the prince make the comment to Marienne Ferguson, a 78-year-old who fled the Nazis aged 13 and lost family members in the Holocaust.
